Prosecutors Seek Prison Sentence for VW Engineer in Diesel Emissions Scandal

US prosecutors are seeking a three-year prison sentence for a Volkswagen engineer who played a key role in the company’s emissions scandal.

Robert Liang is expected to be sentenced Friday in a Detroit federal court.

He’s one of the two employees to plead guilty.

Prosecutors say Liang was aware the VW used software to cheat on US emissions rules on nearly 600,000 diesel vehicles.

His lawyer says he followed orders to keep his job.

Liang is asking the judge to consider probation and 1,500 hours of community service.
