New Rules Ban Michigan Inmates From Receiving Mail With Lipstick Kisses, Homemade Cards

There’s some new rules tied to inmates’ mail.

The Michigan Department of Corrections says prisoners are now banned from getting mail that includes homemade greeting cards, perfume or lipstick kisses.

The rules are going into effect October 1.

They also require mail to be written in blue or black ink or lead pencil.

The policy also bans stickers, including address labels.

The rules are meant to stop drugs from getting in. They can be hidden in thin strips and concealed under a sticker or other items.
