Benzonia Public Library Given 2016 State Librarian’s Excellence Award

A Northern Michigan library has been awarded the 2016 State Librarian’s Excellence Award for its superior customer service.

Out of all libraries in the state, the Benzonia Public Library has been given the award this year.

The Library of Michigan Foundation says their growing programs, community partnerships and outstanding service put them on top.

The library says being from a small community, with a small budget, receiving this award is an honor.

“Last summer we celebrated 90 years in this location and in that time Benzonia Public Library has been there for the community, has been there to meet their needs and I just think that’s very special,” says Amanda McLaren, director of the Benzonia Public Library. “There’s that consistency. That love.”

The library will also receive $2,000 with the award.
