Operation Roundup Helps Northern Michigan Organizations

Some Northern Michigan electric customers are giving back to the community. The Cherryland Cares group donated close to 24-thousand dollars to ten local organizations in December. The group is part of the Cherryland Electric Cooperative and runs “Operation Roundup”. Members round up their bills to the nearest dollar every month, and all of that money goes back to the community. Cherryland Electric says it's wonderful the program is so successful, and they hope more take part. “We presently have about 4300 members contributing. We have a total of 33,000 members, so we obviously have room to grow that and are hoping that people will choose to do that,” Tony Anderson, Cherryland Electric Co-Op, said. Tony Anderson says rounding up amounts to about 50-cents per month. The Father Fred Foundation, Love-INC. of Manistee and the Grand Traverse Area Fire Department were just a few organizations to receive money.
