Cadillac Looks to Continue Turnaround

CADILLAC – After staging one of the biggest gridiron turnarounds in the area last fall, the Cadillac football program opened preseason camp this week.

Cadillac saw a six-win improvement in 2019, going 7-5 and surprising many by handing losses to Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie en route to its first district title since 2013.

The Vikings, who were the last Big North Conference teams standing last fall, are tasked with replacing eight seniors, including several key leaders, but are ready for the challenge ahead.

“We’re bringing back a lot of starters, but the big challenge has been who’s going to grow into that leadership role,” Cadillac coach Coy Mallory said. “We’ve had guys that have really stepped up and I’m really impressed with what they’ve been able to do so far. The big thing is we’re not thinking long term at all, we don’t have a scrimmage to think about so all we’re thinking about is Reed City and getting ourselves ready for that game.”

Cadillac opens its season at home against Reed City on Thursday, Aug. 27. It marks the first meeting between the two schools since 1996.
