A Mio man is facing multiple sex crimes charges.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post were first contacted in Aug. 2021 by the medical coordinator from the Northern Michigan Child Advocacy Center to investigate an alleged sexual assault. Richard Bernard Walser, 82, was identified as the suspect. Walser was arraigned in Oscoda County earlier this year for several counts of criminal sexual and home invasion regarding this case.
Troopers say a second victim has now come forward and another investigation was launched. Walser was subsequently arrested at his home on Sept. 22 and lodged at the Oscoda County Jail.
Walser was arraigned on Sept. 23 in an Oscoda County court on one count criminal sexual conduct third degree, one count gross indecency between male and female – committing/procuring, and one count criminal sexual assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. He was issued a $75,000 bond and is due back in court on Oct. 13.
MSP says there is currently a third investigation being conducted regarding an alleged sexual assault by Walser of an additional victim. The MSP Alpena Post is asking anyone else that may have been a victim of Walser to contact the MSP Alpena Post at 989-354-4101.
