A spark just ignited in Wexford and Missaukee Counties, looking to help more people in need.
Spark in the Dark started in Traverse City as a Facebook group that helps people over social media. Now that vision has grown, and on Aug. 1, a Wexford-Missaukee Spark in the Dark group was launched.
Members can reach out with any need they might have – whether it’s food they need or if they are experiencing homelessness.
In the first 24 hours, the page hit 400 members. The page now has more than 800 members.
“What we’ve learned is it’s not the people that have a ton of money that help or anything, it’s a lot of people that, ‘Hey, my little one just ran out of 4 month clothes, I’d like to donate them,'” said Doreen Lanc of the Cadillac Area Community Foundation. “They’re all just willing to share resources and help other people.”
