Traverse City Area Public School’s new superintendent is busy getting ready for the school year

Dr. John VanWagoner was previously the superintendent in the Alpena School District. As TCAPS prepares, VanWagoner says his biggest priority in the upcoming school year is safety.

“We’re working through that process right now, what that looks like. Safety is the first and foremost so we’re making sure we’re finalizing our cleaning procedures. If we have one kid in our building with it at some point, or one staff member, we’re going to have to be ready for that.”

He says it’s been exciting to get to know people in the school district, as well as community leaders.

And VanWagoner says they’re also going through survey results from parents and staff to find out where they are at with a safe start to school. Those results will be presented to the board of education on August 10.
