Tuesday a ceremony recognized the special pride Traverse City shares for the United States Coast Guard during a jet display dedication.

The HU-25 Falcon Jet is no ordinary jet.

Only 41 of its kind were built and many of them are heading to scrap yards.

After a 32-year-career at 10 different air stations the including Traverse City, the local air station, Cherry Capital Airport and city fought to keep it and put it on display for everyone to see.

It took almost six years, but Tuesday it was finally dedicated.

Captain Joe Buzzella, once served as a commander at the Traverse City air station and worked to get the jet on display. He says, “Anyway we can show off Traverse City as a Coast Guard City is a great thing and I think the falcon is one way the city has agreed to do that this is a pretty spectacular piece of equipment here for Traverse City.”

There are only five jets that will be used for displays across the country.
