Ferris State volleyball stays unbeaten in GLIAC play, sweeps LSSU

BIG RAPIDS - The 16th-ranked Ferris State volleyball team improved to 12-0 in GLIAC play by sweeping a matinee home match from Lake Superior State on Monday.

The Bulldogs won with scores of 25-19 in the first, 25-18 in the second, and 25-21 to complete the sweep. Ferris State also swept the Lakers in Sault Ste. Marie just over three weeks ago.

Ferris State was coming off an emotional weekend, where they came from behind to defeat league rival Grand Valley State to stay unbeaten atop the GLIAC standings.

On Monday, Claire Nowicki paced a balanced Bulldog attack, racking up nine kills. Emma Bleecher and Hannah Tecumseh each chipped in with seven kills apiece.

The Lakers were led by Marian Velasque and Morgan Deming with nine kills each.

As a team, Ferris hit at a .318 clip, while holding the Lakers to just a .132 hitting percentage.

The Bulldogs (19-4) are 8-1 at home so far inside the new Bulldog Arena this season. Ferris State returns to action at home against Wayne State on Wednesday night, Oct. 25.
