First National Cherry Festival Pickleball Tournament is a success

TRAVERSE CITY- The First ever National Cherry Festival Pickleball Tournament wrapped an exciting week in Traverse City. The tournament took place on July 7th and 8th with participants signing up to take part in the men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. It was set up as round robin play with the target scoring being 15. It is also based on skill, women’s and men’s doubles will be skill level 3.5 or below and 4.0 or above; Mixed Doubles will be skill level 3.0 or below, 3.5, and 4.0 or above.

One player, Marti Johnson said that pickleball is a great way to stay in shape and was great for her health.

“It’s great for your mental health. And if you’re an outside outdoors enthusiast who likes to be active social laugh and make new friends, I highly suggest it as an activity.”

Marti was a part of the women’s doubles bracket and part of the 3.5 or below, she said that playing pickleball was something she picked up from a friend.

" I’ve been playing pickleball since September, October last year. I played tennis for years. My friends are playing pickleball at the old YMCA by Logans Landing, and because I’m work from home, I needed a social activity after work.”
