MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

White Cloud senior Reginald Richmond missed two seasons of high school track and field because of an injury and the coronavirus pandemic, but the senior hopes to impress Grand Valley State this upcoming season to earn a scholarship.

Richmond plans to walk on to the nationally-recognized cross and track and field programs in Allendale.

Richmond enjoyed a successful cross country career for the Indians, qualifying for the MHSAA Lower Peninsula state finals on three occasions. He hopes to walk on to a program that won the 2018 NCAA Division II national championship.

“It’s a great school, so it was a little tougher to get in there,” Richmond said. “I want to do the best possible job as I possibly can, so I decided Grand Valley was the place for me and if I didn’t get to run there, I’d still be attending but even running there is that much better.”

Richmond recorded a pair of top 15 finishes at the MHSAA Division 4 Lower Peninsula finals, including a 10th-place finish as a junior.
