TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Central hockey team advanced to the Scott Miller Memorial Tournament championship game via a 5-3 win over Midland on Friday.
Central took a 1-0 lead after the opening period on the first of Will Beattie’s two goals on the night and pushed its lead to 3-2 on a goal from Scott Klavon with four minutes remaining in the second.
After the Chemics tied the contest in the opening minutes of the third, Sebastian Brons-Piche scored the game-winning unassisted goal with 15 minutes remaining in regulation. Beattie would later tally an insurance goal on the power play.
Jacob Tolfree made 26 saves in net.
The Trojans (4-5) will face Saginaw Heritage Friday at 3:15 p.m. Heritage posted a 4-2 win over defending tournament champion Plymouth Salem earlier Thursday.
