Here is the latest Michigan sports news from The Associated Press
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Blake Corum sprinted for a 67-yard touchdown to give Michigan a double-digit lead in the second quarter, one play after Jim Harbaugh called for a fake punt and the Wolverines pulled away to beat Washington 31-10. Michigan relied on a tandem of running backs, swarming defense and special teams to take and keep control of the game. The Huskies have lost their first two games for the first time since 2008 when they finished 0-12.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Payton Thorne threw for four touchdowns, including two long strikes to Jayden Reed, and ran for another score as Michigan State rolled to a 42-14 victory over Youngstown State. Thorne connected with Reed on Michigan State’s first play from scrimmage, the second straight game in which the Spartans scored from 75-yards out on its opening play. Reed caught four passes for 181 yards, while Jordon Simmons rushed for 140 yards on 19 carries for the Spartans, who led 35-7 at halftime. Demeatric Crenshaw rushed for 69 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown for the Penguins.
DETROIT (AP) — Joey Wendle tripled and homered, 30-year-old Dietrich Enns won for the first time in the major leagues and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 7-2 on Saturday. Kevin Kiermaier doubled and tripled to help the Rays end a two-game losing streak. Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera picked up his 2,974th career hit with an RBI single in the fourth. Enns struck out six in four hitless innings of relief, nine years after being drafted by the New York Yankees out of Central Michigan University.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Chez Mellusi ran for 144 yards and a touchdown, leading No. 18 Wisconsin to a 37-7 victory over Eastern Michigan. Wisconsin (1-1) piled up 352 rushing yards and also dominated on defense against Eastern Michigan (0-2), which had 92 total yards on offense. The Eagles had three first downs. Mellusi, a Clemson transfer, became the first Wisconsin running back to record consecutive 100-yard rushing games in his first two contests since Corey Clement in 2013.
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have placed left tackle Taylor Decker on injured reserve and promoted guard Tommy Kraemer to their active roster from the practice squad. Detroit also promoted offensive tackle Will Holden to the active-inactive list on Saturday, a day before hosting the San Francisco 49ers to open the season. Decker will miss at least three games with a finger injury and he is expected to have surgery. He was hurt during a pass-blocking drill in practice.

It was Central Michigan’s first shutout since November 23, 2013, a 37-0 win over UMass.
