On Sunday, Oct. 24, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will be heading to Mt. Pleasant and Detroit. She is expected to arrive at MBS International Airport in Freeland where she will make her way to the Ziibiwing Center.

Here she will be joined by the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy. They will be holding a listening session focused on youth mental health with members of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

According to their website, the Ziibiwing Center mission is to promote “the society’s belief that the culture, diversity and spirit of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan and other Great Lakes Anishinabek must be recognized, perpetuated, communicated and supported.”

After this gathering, the First Lady will go to Detroit where she is to be the guest speaker at Yeshiva Beth Yehudah’s annual dinner. Yeshiva Beth Yehudah is a Jewish School. It describes itself as Michigan’s largest and oldest educational institution in the state as well as the heart of the Metro Detroit Jewish community. Their annual dinner has been going on for over 50 years.

Dr. Biden is an advocate for community colleges, military families, and the education of woman and girls around the world according to the White House’s website. She continues her work as a professor of writing at Northern Virginia Community College even as the First Lady of the United States.
