Crowds Arriving In Frankfort For Sunday’s Ironman Triathlon

With the pandemic still on most everyone’s minds, thousands of people are expected in Northern Michigan this weekend for the Ironman Triathlon in Frankfort.

It’s set for Sunday, but the crowds are already arriving in Benzie County and neighboring communities.

Hotels and restaurants are already busy, with long waits made even longer, and many businesses at or near capacity.

At Crystal Mountain, they say they’re thrilled to be a part of all the fun.

“We’re excited to keep the fun rolling even though it’s after Labor Day and things start to kind of calm down a little bit,” said Brittney Buti, Public Relations for Crystal Mountain. “We’re still excited to bring in thousands of people to our community. It really is a Benzie County community event and we’re excited to be a part of it.”

The race starts Sunday at 8 a.m. in Frankfort, with the first event being the swim in Betsie Bay.
