Kalkaska Storms Down Trees for Local Families

High winds and heavy rains have been whipping through many parts of northern Michigan.

Last night drivers were left stranded in Kalkaska because of fallen trees.

Crofton Street from Bass Lake to Gregg Road was impassable for much of the night because of downed powerlines.

Homeowner Jesse Krumlauf says his two properties have dozens of fallen trees.

One of them totaled a car.

Krumlauf says emergency crews from downstate had to come to help clear the roads.

Krumlauf says, “Oh I was just trying to get home, to my backhoe and like I said, I’ve pulled up their tree, fell power line, fell on top of my backhoe. And it was just like I just never seen wind like that before.”

Krumlauf says he expects to be cleaning up from these damages for the next day and a half.

He says people from the community have already stepped up to help clear some of the storms mess.
