Surfside Condo Demolition Aids Search of Collapsed Section

The death toll following the condo building collapse in Surfside, Florida now stands at 27.

118 people still have not been found in the rubble.

Officials are trying to make it clear that the demolishing the part of the condo building still standing was necessary.

The mayor of Miami-Dade County says the pile of rubble closest to the remaining part of the building was holding the structure up, so search crews could not dig through that pile.

Rescue crews are now able to search through a section of rubble that would’ve been master bedrooms, where people were likely sleeping when the condo collapsed.

Some investigators believe the layout of steel reinforcements in the building’s concrete supports might have contributed to the building collapse.
