A Charlevoix Christian ministry and elementary school teacher are teaming up to give students food security during their upcoming spring break.

Sixth grade teacher Sara Muladore and Charlevoix’s Safe Haven Ministry put together grocery and snack bags for students at Charlevoix Elementary School.

They include easy to make breakfast and lunch meals, as well as movie and concessions tickets from a local movie theater to give students something to do over break.

Muladore says she’s been putting these bags together for five years, and the feeling of helping students during this time never gets old.

“There’s just a lot of things that, as a teacher, you see and you hear, and there’s a lot of things that you can’t fix,” she said. “What I can do is I can make sure that this place is happy in my classroom, and kids know that they’re loved by me, and then if there’s things that I can do to help them at home, then that’s what I’m going to do.”

This year, 110 preschool through sixth grade families will receive these bags.
