Social media is a great place to connect with family or reconnect with old friends. In this case, it helped save a Michigan man’s life.

About two years ago, Mark Quiglia from Macomb was rushed to the hospital because he had chest pains. He thought it was heartburn. Doctors told him he was actually experiencing kidney failure, and he needed a transplant. Mark’s wife started several campaigns online to find a donor.

That’s when Abigail Prout, a friend of a friend of his wife’s, reached out. She started the process to donate her kidney to someone she’s never met, in the middle of a pandemic.

“I just thought it was the right thing to do,” said Abigail, “someone needed it more than I did”.

“[I feel] unbelievably blessed,” Mark expressed, “really no words can describe that”.

Since the June procedure, both Mark and Abigal are recovering and doing well.

Nearly 100-thousand people are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. And, if you have two healthy kidneys, you may be able to donate one to save a life.
