Some local veterans are making a push to restore a WWII monument in the village of Bellaire.

The small monument is located in front of the village’s community hall.

It was originally donated by a local chapter of the Blue Star Mothers and Wives of Veterans shortly after World War II.

Now after a request from a few veterans, DPW Supervisor Bradley Keiser says the village will be restoring the rock foundation, cement top and plaque.

“They wanted to just see if we could get it refurbished, it’s looking rough, the plaque’s unreadable,” he says. “A lot of the gentleman’s names that are on the plaque, you know. These are members of the service that are lost in the war and a lot of those names on the plaque are people of family members that are still here today in this town.”

The village hopes to have the monument completely finished and lit by the Memorial Day parade next year.
