Largest Wind Park in Michigan Planned for Isabella Co.

Apex Clean Energy is currently in the process of building two of the largest wind-parks in the state of Michigan. They’re hoping by the end of 2020, over 100 wind turbines will be built across Isabella County.

Something that will look similar to the wind-parks in Gratiot County. Apex is currently working with over 600 families in northern Isabella County on a 56,000 acre lease.

Albert Jongewaard from Apex says, “That power from Isabella Wind will be used here locally, but it’s going to help service the renewable energy goals for the state of Michigan and it’s going to help power, or provide renewable power for larger corporate buyers in the state of Michigan as well”

After the turbines are built, DTE Energy will assume ownership. The energy produced will help power communities around the area as well as large corporations like Ford Motors and the Detroit Zoo who have chosen MIGreenPower.

DTE Energy is trying to reach its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2040.

Brian Calka, Director of Renewable Solutions at DTE Energy, says, “As a result, we have the developments here in Isabella County, which are going to provide the power to some of those large customers who have signed up for MI Green Power.”
