Houghton Lake Rallies for Ava Gasper

Last November, 9&10 News told you about a young girl in Houghton Lake diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Ava Gasper has spent the last year undergoing chemotherapy treatments, but recent tests show the cancer is coming back.

Now she’s on her way to see a specialist at the Cleveland Clinic, and the community wanted to show its support.

They came up with a special surprise.

As her car rolled down M-55, Ava was escorted by the wail a fire engine and flashing lights of a police cruiser.

Residents and a school band stood and waved along the roadside, cheering her on as she left for Ohio.

The family sought out Dr. Pete Anderson, from Cleveland, who specializes in Ava’s rare cancer.

We want to give Ava all the love and support this morning as she makes her way to Ohio.
