Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first stepped foot on the moon on July 20th, 1969. Now 50 years later, the American accomplishment is a symbol of unity and aspiration.

Unlike Neil Armstrong, Greg Johnson never stepped foot on the moon, but he did make it to outer space. Growing up in Northern Michigan, Johnson said he was first inspired to be an astronaut when he was seven years old, watching the Apollo 11 land on the moon.

“He has always been my inspiration for being an astronaut. When I was 7 years old, it just planted a seed. I really didn’t think it was a possibility,” said Johnson. “Neil Armstrong as being an astronaut was a model for me.”
