The Grand Traverse County Department of Public Works will begin emergency repairs on a broken sewer line on Tuesday, July 14, at the intersection of South Airport Road and North Cass Road.
The urgent repair is necessary due to the deteriorating condition of the sewer line, which the DPW states can no longer be delayed for public safety and system operation.
Repairs will impact one of Grand Traverse County’s busiest intersections and motorists should prepare for traffic backups and delays throughout the project.
The project, managed by the Grand Traverse County DPW, has contracted Team Elmer’s to conduct the repairs. The lane closures are anticipated to be in place for approximately two days, subject to weather and field conditions.
Traffic restrictions will include the closure of the westbound right-turn lane and one westbound through lane on South Airport Road. Both northbound through lanes on Cass Road, north of South Airport Road, will also be closed, with northbound traffic shifted into the southbound left-turn lane to maintain flow.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes when possible and use additional caution while traveling through the work zone.
