Northwestern Michigan College Receives Grant From Federal Aviation Administration

Northwestern Michigan College is flying high this week.

They’ve received a $90,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The money will be used to train and equip 40 high school teachers around the state with the skills of unmanned aerial system flights through the college.

This will give a push to establishing high school programs focused on building careers in drone operations.

“The state and federal level, there’s a push right now for workforce development in this industry and this will really, really help get that going and gain momentum to be able to do that,” said Tony Sauerbrey, NMC UAS Program Manager. “Then they can just continue that education and come to NMC and get a degree and pursue this as a career.”

NMC will also consult with high schools to develop these programs and curriculums.
