Traverse City Program Helps Hotel Workers Pay For Child Care

Traverse City Tourism is participating in a new pilot program to help hotel workers find affordable child care.

Under the Tri-Share Program, child care costs will be split between parents, Traverse City Tourism and the state of Michigan.

The funding approved by the legislature and Governor Whitmer will be available until next July, but it can be extended until 2023.

The Traverse City Tourism president says he hopes the program will help the hospitality industry hire and retain qualified workers.

Funding will be administered through United Way of Northwest Michigan in partnership with employers based in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau Counties.

Parents’ household income must be between 150 and 250% of the federal poverty guidelines. That means a family of four would need to make between $39,750 to $66,250 to qualify.

Applicants also need to work over 25 hours a week at participating hotels.
