Clare Used Car Dealership’s License Suspended

A Clare County used-vehicle dealership had its license suspended after the state said it was not providing warranty protection.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced Monday that an investigation into Northern Motors, LLC, in Clare failed to forward funds that would be used to buy extended service warranties.

The state says the dealership would then not take mandatory steps to activate warranties and leave customers unprotected.

A hearing will soon be scheduled for the owner to contest the suspension.

The dealership issued a statement, which reads:

"The state investigated allegations against Northern Motors that  extended service warranty  contracts  purchased by customers were not paid for.    Today we had a hearing in Lansing to clear up this matter.   The 2 warranties that were in questions were shown to be paid and in effect.     The state has procedures and processes and unfortunately we were caught up in some of that.   The dealership is in the process of being sold and as with any dealership the state plays a major role in the transfer of ownership and they look at every aspect very thoroughly.    We are sorry that the public, our customers or any friends of the dealership have to hear about any of this nonsense.  The new owners will hopefully will be open within a week."
