Rice or Cauliflower? Farmers Dispute Cauliflower Rice

Posted: Updated:

Cauliflower rice is a substitute for carbs, and it’s popping up in many stores, from organic markets to the freezer aisle.

But the rice industry is upset over the products name.

“Cauliflower rice” could be misleading and confusing.

Mathew Sliger, a rice farmer says “Riced cauliflower, I mean, why even call it riced cauliflower? Could call it, bits of cauliflower, or cauliflower crumbles. Secondly, when did rice become a verb?”

Rice farmers are asking the Food and Drug Administration to define “rice” so not everyone can use the name.
