Proposal for New TC Development Skipstone Crossing

Posted: Updated:

A Traverse City hotel is proposing a new development site across from Northwestern Michigan College and the Dennos Museum.

The Forest Hills Apartments on East Street and the Shadowland Motel would be demolished to make way for the new Skipstone Crossing.

Plans for the three acre corner have evolved with Northwestern Michigan College.

NMC has expressed interest in relocating the book store to the Skipstone corner for better access.

There's also a plan to build apartment buildings and offices spaces on the corner.

Developers are hoping to show the rewards and convenience of in-town living.

Mike Wills, a Development Consultant, said, "We've been talking about what it can be and the first thing we did was talk to the college. And out of those discussions came this plan."

The President of Summerside Properties, Alex Mowczan, said, "One of the things I'm excited about is getting rid of the blight of the outdated properties that we have here now, and to be able to have something that the community can be proud of."

Developers hope to have the buildings built together in the spring of 2015 for occupancy in the spring of 2016.
