UPDATE: Mackinac Bridge Authority Reopens Bridge With Escorts

Posted: Updated:

The Mackinac Bridge is back open, but that doesn't mean the winds are over.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority says winds reached 64 mph today, causing delays and damage.

Trucks and cars with something in tow need to be escorted, and go very slow across. Even with an escort, things can go wrong. A truck driver crossing the bridge for his very first time, had an unpleasant first experience. As he hauled a trailer across, a gust of wind flipped it. The bridge had to go into partial closure as they helped him get back on his wheels. He made it out safely, but the same can't be said for his trailer.

The Bridge Authority says to expect similar delays and conditions tomorrow, and to drive slow.

9&10's Alyssa Gambla and photojournalist Erin Malone visited the Mackinac Bridge to check out today's wicked winds, and find out more for commuters.

The Mackinac Bridge is back open Monday after high winds forced MBA to close due to high winds, with no semis or trailers being allowed to cross.

The Bridge Authority has escorts in place for those high profile vehicles to get them safely across the bridge
