Hook and Hunting: Tree Stand Hunting Safety - Northern Michigan's News Leader

Hook and Hunting: Tree Stand Hunting Safety

Posted: Updated:

When it comes to hunting safety should be a top priority.

Every time you go up a tree stand, there's a risk you could come right back down if you aren't properly using a harness.

Outdoor sports stores are urging hunters to make sure they are wearing a harness when they are on a tree stand.

Stores say most new tree stands come with a harness.

It's important to regularly check the harness to make sure it's in good condition.

If you're worried it's not, or you fall once, get a new one.

They say you're better off replacing the harness so that if you fall again, you know the harness will function.

Stores also say some harnesses are now offered with a shock absorbing system to soften the fall.
