JUST IN: John White Sentenced to 56-85 Years in Prison for Rebekah Gay's Murder

Posted: Updated:

John White has been sentenced to 56 to 85 years in prison for the murder of Rebekah Gay.

Coming up on 9&10 News at 5:00 and 6:00, we will have all the details from today's sentencing.

John White pleaded guilty to second degree murder for the killing of the young mother in Isabella county.

It's a story we've followed every step of the way since Halloween of last year when police found her body.

Rebekah Gay's body was found near her home on Coldwater Road between Remus and Mount Pleasant.

White, who is a former pastor, admitted to fantasizing about killing Rebekah for weeks, and having sex with her dead body.

Documents show he also admitted to beating and strangling her.

And White has a criminal past, including a conviction of assault with intent to murder in 1980.

White now faces up to life in prison for Gay's murder when he's sentenced next month.

Update: A former pastor, who confessed to killing an Isabella County woman, waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

55-year-old John D. White agreed Wednesday to forgo the hearing and proceed to trial on a first-degree murder charge.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled February 25th, in Isabella County Circuit Court in Mount Pleasant.

White is an ex-convict who settled outside Mount Pleasant and became a pastor of a tiny church, Christ Community Fellowship.

Police say he confessed to killing 24-year-old Rebekah Gay on October 31st, as part of a sexual fantasy.

They say White babysat for Gay's son, who was asleep at home during the killing.

Authorities say White hit Gay over the head with a mallet, then strangled her when he realized she was still breathing.

He left her body in the woods, where police found it shortly after.
