"Hosta Hills Gardens" Attract Visitors From Around the Country

Posted: Updated:

A garden with more than 2,000 plants is no easy task.

At Hosta Hills Gardens near Cadillac, Bevie Schmidt and her husband have created an oasis that attracts people from around the country.

It is a garden that almost never happened, in 1997 Bevie's sister gave her a couple hosta plants, Bevie forgot to plant them until the following spring, when she noticed they brought color to their pine needle filled front yard.

Today, the garden features hostas of every shape, size and many different shades of the classic hosta colors; green, blue and yellow.

Bevie has taken home more than 200 ribbons at hosta shows and is a member of hosta groups nationwide and here in Michigan.

9&10's Kalin Franks and photojournalist Jake Johnson spent the day exploring Hosta Hills, and have more on this enchanting "secret garden."
