A Leelanau County kitchen is barely standing after a man drove off of M-22 and into a woman’s home while she and her dog were inside.
They’re okay, but she can’t say the same about her house or the back of her car.
The sheriff’s office says cars were waiting to turn into a subdivision when the man was unable to stop hitting one car, bounced off, and sideswiped another.
From there he drove onto a yard, then into Maxine Pekkala’s garage only to end in her kitchen.
Pekkala says, “I didn’t know what was going on, except for all the ambulances and everything here. I didn’t know two more cars were involved, so I don’t know, I was just sort of in shock. I don’t know how else to describe it.”
The driver was taken to the hospital and the sheriff says they are treating this as a medical accident.
However, they say the man was driving with a suspended license.
