If you just drive by and glance, it kind looks like the turn of the century lumber mill it once was, but today if you stop and go in, you will see that it’s a , but it’s a lot different.
It has the feel of a boutique: well organized and decorated, but the goal is the same.
“All the profits that this store generates is really what buys the nails and turns the door knobs for the new home owner,” says manager Pat Robbins.
That’s the mission of a Habitat ReStore: make money to buy the materials to build homes for those in need. But this store, managed by Pat, is a different.
He started running things as a favor, and seven years later his passion shows.
The knotty pine walls, the quality items for sale. He has found that nice stores bring in nicer donations, and he likes surprising people.
“Sometimes they are looking for that one particular item that they don’t find at the big box. They want maybe that solid core antique door. We’ve got it,” explains Pat.
All donations to the Mancelona store can only come from Antrim County and Pat has made inroads with local cottage owners.
Want to donate? Want to buy for your summer place? Don’t get me wrong this restore boutique still has the kitchen sink and building supplies, but it’s about making money to support the cause. Pat knows that if you are looking for a cup you don’t want to search through hammers.
“We really want them to have fun here. When it is organized and clean, it keeps them coming back,” says Pat.
