Lake Co. man sentenced to up to 15 years for shooting and killing his drinking buddy

LAKE COUNTY — On Friday, Lake County Prosecutor Craig Cooper said Dwayne Strandell was sentenced to a minimum of 54 months and a maximum of 15 years for shooting his friend, Craig Trunoske, at Strandell’s home.

Cooper said he’s satisfied with Cooper’s sentence. While Strandell may not have intended to kill his friend, the prosecutor said his sentence fits the seriousness of the crime.

LAKE COUNTY — A Lake County man will be sentenced after shooting his friend, killing him while they were drinking at his home near Luther.

Dwayne Edwin Strandell pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, and the Lake County prosecutor confirmed he will be sentenced next week, April 30, at 9 a.m.

The penalty could be anywhere from 29 to 57 months. The prosecutor said he intends to ask for the higher sentence because of the seriousness of the offense.

LAKE COUNTY — On Feb. 5 at 1:47 a.m., Lake County Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a homeowner saying a man had entered his home on North Skookum Road in Dover Township.

The homeowner said that he shot the intruder, officials said.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the residence and found a 61-year-old man in the home dead from a gunshot wound.

Upon further investigation, deputies said that it is believed that the 61-year-old and the 63-year-old male homeowner knew each other and had been drinking together prior to the incident.

The homeowner was arrested at the scene, deputies said.
