McBain NMC Hands Houghton Lake its First Highland Loss

McBAIN – The McBain NMC Comets handed Houghton Lake its first league loss by a 59-28 final score on Friday night.

The Comets improve to 3-2 with the victory. All five of their games this season have been against Highland Conference opponents.

McBain NMC also got senior Blake DeZeeuw back for this game. DeZeeuw, a standout multi-sport athlete for the Comets, broke his foot in the MHSAA playoffs during soccer season and came off the bench Friday night in the first quarter to a big ovation. He then knocked in his first shot, a three-pointer from the top of the key.

Houghton Lake falls to 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in conference play with the loss.

McBain NMC plays at Evart on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in its next game. Houghton Lake plays at the same time and on the same night at Beal City.
