CMU Starts MAC Play With 68-56 Win Over Miami (OH)

MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan Chippewas used a big second half to open up Mid-American Conference play with a 68-56 win over visiting Miami (OH) on Tuesday night.

The Chippewas, coming off an upset win over the University of Michigan last week, trailed the Redhawks 29-26 at halftime but outscored Miami 42-27 in the second half for the win.

Jesse Zarzuela came off the CMU bench to lead the team in scoring with 19 points.  Brian Taylor added 16 and Markus Harding chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds.

The Redhawks Morgan Safford led all scorers with 20 points.  Anderson Mirambeaux added 18 points for Miami (OH).

The Chippewas won the game despite shooting 4-24 (16.7%) from 3-point range.  CMU did out-rebound Miami 48-35.

Central Michigan (6-8, 1-0 MAC) travels to Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
