Lake City Earns Conference Split With Evart in 42-34 Win

LAKE CITY - Lake City avenged its only loss of the season with a 42-34 win over Evart on Wednesday night, pulling within a half-game of the Wildcats for first place in the conference.

Lake City improves to 13-1 (8-1 Highland) with the victory and Evart falls to 12-2 (9-1 Highland).

It was a back-and-forth game throughout the first half as both teams traded blows. A late surge in the second quarter gave Lake City a 22-19 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the Trojans started to create some distance as Alie Bisballe dominated in the post. She led Lake City with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the game.

The lead reached 11 points at one point and while Evart came clawing back, the Trojans were able to keep them at an arm’s length down the stretch.

Kyrah Gray led the way for Evart with 15 points.

“Defensively we gave up 34 points tonight. Evart’s averaging close to 50, 56 points I think, somewhere in there,” said Lake City head coach Bill Tisron. “So I think just continuing to play the defense that we’re playing and if we can hold teams under 40 we’re going to have a chance to win every time we’re out there.”

“This was a big crowd on both sides,” Tisron added. “Evart brought a spectator bus today. Their side was packed, our side was packed. It was a fun high school game. That’s what I kept telling the girls, this is fun!”

Evart returns to action on Friday night at Manton.

Lake City also plays on Friday night at Houghton Lake.
