Cadillac to Play in State Semis for Second Time in Three Seasons

The Cadillac volleyball team is making its second Div. 2 State Semifinals appearance in three years, but this time around feels extra special to the Vikings.

“At the very beginning of the season the girls were saying ‘everybody’s asking us are you guys even going to be any good?'” recalled head coach Michelle Brines. “So for them to be playing on Friday night in the final four with a chance to play on Saturday for the first time in the history of Cadillac volleyball is pretty awesome.”

“I went [to the semis] my sophomore year and we had a lot of key players then and we’ve lost those key players,” added senior Joslyn Seeley. “So it’s fun to prove people wrong.”

Those key players included Coach Brines’ daughter, Renee, who was a finalist for the Miss Volleyball award as a senior last season. Despite departures of great players like Brines and fellow 2021 seniors Cailey Masserang, Julia Jezak and Madyson Smith, this year’s Vikings have come together to uphold the high standard Cadillac has set in recent years.

Now, these Vikings have an opportunity to become the first team in school history to advance to the state championship. Cadillac will face Dearborn Divine Child in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
