Cadillac Beats Dearborn Divine Child to Advance to First Ever State Title

BATTLE CREEK – The Cadillac Vikings earned their first ever volleyball state finals appearance with a 3-1 semifinal win over Dearborn Divine Child on Friday night.

As has been the custom for the Vikings this postseason, they dropped the first set of the match, 16-25, before roaring back to take the final three sets, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-13.

“I was really happy that we were able to turn it around,” said head coach Michelle Brines. “It seems like this whole postseason we’ve got to drop the first set before we wake up a little bit. I think that was the case again. For them to be playing on the last day of the season says a lot about them and their perseverance.

Even before the match, the Vikings had to endure a difficult trip in snowy conditions down to Battle Creek.

“To look up and see our parents that drove four or five hours in a snowstorm to be here today, you really feel the heart and you feel the love for this team,” said senior Joslyn Seeley.

The Vikings will play against North Branch in the Div. 2 State Championship on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
