Elk Rapids Falls in State Semifinals to Holland Christian

CEDAR SPRINGS – The Elk Rapids Elks lost 4-1 to the Holland Christian Maroons in the Div. 3 Boys Soccer State Semifinals on Wednesday night.

The Maroons scored three goals in the first 21 minutes of the game to take control.

“The three goals right off the bat that’s our fault. We didn’t do the little things that we need to do right off the bat,” said Elk Rapids head coach Nate Plum. “In a game and against a team like that I mean, you’ve got to give them credit. They’re big, they’re strong, they’re fast and they’re skilled on turf. That means they’re very technical. I expect them to do well at the next stage.”

Senior Spencer Ball scored the lone goal for Elk Rapids.

Ball is one of six seniors on the Elks’ roster this season.

“Jared [Barcenas] and Spencer [Ball] and Charlie [Parrish], they’ve been around for a long time with me and no one can take it away from them the memories that we’ve got together,” said Plum. “I’ll miss them dearly.”

This is the third straight season Elk Rapids has reached the state semifinals and the third straight year the Elks’ run has ended in the semis.

Elk Rapids finishes with a record of 18-8-2, a conference championship, a district championship and a regional championship.
