Inland Lakes Clinches Share of Ski Valley, Seeks Outright Conference Title

INDIAN RIVER – The Inland Lakes volleyball team has clinched a share of the Ski Valley Conference title and can win it outright with a victory over Forest Area on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs are 26-8-4 this season and a perfect 7-0 in conference play.

This comes on the heels of their memorable run to the Div. 4 State Championship game last season, where the Bulldogs eventually lost to Battle Creek St. Phillip to finish as state runners-up.

Inland Lakes is ranked sixth in the state in the latest MIVCA poll.

Coach Natalie Moore said the focus this season is on proving that this year’s team is worthy of that ranking and is creating its own legacy different from that of last year’s team.

“So we have lots of conversations about ‘are we just riding from last year going to the state finals or are we deserving of this?'” Moore said. “And I think that’s our battle every practice and every game is that this team is good too, not just people remembering us from last year. So every day that’s our battle and that’s what we’re working with.”

Inland Lakes plays Forest Area at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. If Inland Lakes wins, the Bulldogs win the Ski Valley Conference title outright. If they lose, they’ll share the conference championship with Johannesburg-Lewiston.
