Central Michigan Honors Former Chippewas, Renames Football Stadium Field and Radio Booth

MT. PLEASANT — Central Michigan’s home opener kicked off by honoring former CMU coaches, Roy Kramer and Herb Deromedi, as well as a former CMU broadcaster, Don Chiodo.

Kelly-Shorts Stadium is now home to Kramer/Deromedi Field, named after the two coaches who left a mark with the Chippewas. Kramer served as head coach in 1974, leading the team to a Division II championship. Deromedi was the defensive coordinator in 1974 and went on to be a head coach for 16 seasons.

The home radio booth also saw a name change Saturday morning in honor of the late Chiodo. Chiodo was the voice for Chippewa football and basketball prior to a tragic car accident in 2019.
