St. Ignace Looks to End Playoff Drought

ST. IGNACE – After winning one game in 2020, the St. Ignace Saints won just two games in 2021. The Saints dealt with injuries throughout the season and as Mike Shepard starts his fourth year at the helm of the program, he feels his team is ready to start winning consistently.

“Yes, everyone is eager to win right now. This is a good group. These juniors and seniors gel well together,” Shepard said. “They all get along great and they just support each other. Everyone seems to be a leader. If someone is having a rough day or a rough play everyone in the background is chattering to pump them up and keep them going and it’s nice.”

“Those past seasons, they hurt,” said senior Carson Bigger. “So we’re just trying to come out and show the town that St. Ignace football is still here.”

The Saints return seven seniors, four of them on the offensive line. They will have 16 players on the varsity roster this season.

St. Ignace opens the season against Tawas on Aug. 26th.
