Pit Spitters’ Pitchers Ready to Play in Northwoods League All-Star Game

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Pit Spitters will once again be represented in the Northwoods League All-Star Game on Tuesday, with pitchers Derek Clark and Aren Gustafson making the Great Lakes team.

This will be the first time for both players. Clark has had a great first half of the season, going 4-0 with a 2.38 earned run average and 46 strikeouts on the mound.

“I just love competing against all the big (Division 1) guys,” said Clark, who plays baseball at Northwood. I just go to a little, small (Division 2) school and to go out and pitch against guys from Kentucky, Arizona, all over the place, all these big Power 5 schools, it’s a real honor.”

Gustafson has been equally impressive at 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA. He has 38 strikeouts this season.

“With this league, there’s a lot of talent,” Gustafson said. “There’s a lot of talent in our locker room. So just to get this honor is a blessing.”

The game will start at 8 p.m. (EST) at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc.
