Pit Spitters Blow Four-Run Lead With Two Outs in Ninth, Lose 8-7

TRAVERSE CITY – It was a tough loss to swallow for the Traverse City Pit Spitters on Monday night as they blew a four-run lead with two outs in the ninth inning.

The 8-7 loss snapped the team’s three-game winning streak.

The Pit Spitters scored five runs on just one hit in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Traverse City was helped by five walks and two Kokomo errors. Jakob Marsee delivered the only Traverse City hit in the inning.

They held a 7-3 lead with two outs in the ninth inning but Kokomo rallied to score five runs to take the lead.

Marsee led off the bottom of the ninth with a single for Traverse City but a double play and subsequent groundout ended the game.

The Pit Spitters will look to put this game behind them as they start a new series with the Battle Creek Battle Jacks on Tuesday night.
