McElwain Hospitalized, “Doing Fine” Following Seizure on Sunday

MT. PLEASANT — Central Michigan head football coach Jim McElwain had a seizure on Sunday and doctors have asked him to stay in the hospital for a few days, Central Michigan University announced on Monday. McElwain said he is doing fine and looks forward to the start of camp.

In the statement, McElwain said, “On Sunday I had a seizure. I’m doing fine and all the tests have come back good. The doctors have asked that I stay in the hospital for a few days, so I won’t be at MAC Media Day. I know Coach Akey, Lew and Jamezz will do a great job. I can’t wait to get going for the start of camp.”

McElwain has been the head coach of the Chippewas since 2019. Central Michigan’s first game is on Sept. 1 on the road against Oklahoma State at 7 p.m.
