CMU’s Jakob Marsee Says He Was in Cooperstown When He Found Out He’d Been Drafted by Padres

Former Central Michigan and Traverse City Pit Spitters outfielder Jakob Marsee said he was on a bench in front of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York when he found out he had been drafted by the San Diego Padres.

“I’m in Cooperstown, New York right now because my little brother is playing here and it was like his break to go to the Hall of Fame. So I was on a bench in front of the Hall of Fame,” Marsee said. “And I had both my parents right there and my little brother and my older brother was on FaceTime. It was just a rollercoaster of a day obviously.”

San Diego took Marsee in the sixth round with the 180th overall pick in the draft. He was one of three Central Michigan players drafted this year (2B Mario Camilletti and P Andrew Taylor are the other two).

Marsee hit .345 with seven home runs for the Chippewas this spring. In 17 games with the Traverse City Pit Spitters this summer, he was leading the team with a .345 batting average.

Marsee said he intends to take the opportunity and sign with the Padres, foregoing his final two years of college eligibility.
